Cranberry Sauce

Cranberry Sauce

Cranberry sauce time!

Cranberry sauce time!

(Again, more applause for Elise Bauer and her website as this is where I got the base for the recipe that I modified.)

Ingredients:

1 cup of sugar

1 cup of orange juice

1 12oz package of cranberries (usual size of one bag of them you find in the store)

nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, all spice to scent, then to taste

Instructions:

  1. Wash and rinse the cranberries in a colander, taking out the bad ones (squished, not red, or very bruised).

  2. Put orange juice in a pot with sugar and bring it to a boil. Stir to make sure the sugar is mixed in throughly.

  3. Add cranberries and let them cook on the high heat. Listen for the music!

  4. As cranberries are finishing up popping, turn off the heat, add in the various spices and stir frequently. Use your nose at first, figure out which spice is overwhelming the others and add more of the others in. Be careful with nutmeg though, it can have adverse reactions in high amounts (like half a bottle, so basically don’t go nuts).

  5. When you’re mostly sure it will be good, remove from heat and let cool. Taste when cool, add more spices if necessary and enjoy!

Forgive the very bad camera work, I am still learning how to take good video with my camera. This recipe is what I make every year for thanksgiving and it is what my family expects me to bring. I thought I would share how easy this recipe is and far more flavor-filled than the stuff you get in a can. Who’d want a demented jello wannabe when you could have something that sings while you make it? Also, when my dad asked what spices were in it, he swore I said “old spice” not “all spice”. Enjoy!
